‘How do you make food more interesting? Bring on Stefan Gates. With his repertoire of quirky, inventive and humorous demonstrations, Stefan’s performances turn food science into food theatre. The Pied Piper meets Professor Branestawm.’

Martin Orbach, Abergavenny Food Festival Director

‘Wonderful. Energetic, engaging and imaginative.’

Jenny Jopson, Wellcome Trust Events Officer

‘Stefan’s shows were perfect for Manchester Science Festival. Loads of weird and wonderful cooking, fun, science and education! They attracted a huge crowd and Stefan’s fans were blown away (not literally thank goodness!) by the chemistry in the food, great stories and quirky edible delights. Stefan was a pleasure to work with too – please come back to Manchester!’

Natalie Ireland, Manchester Science Festival Director

‘The course was brilliant. I liked eating the frogs legs most and eating the lamb testicles the least.’ Edward

‘Grace absolutely loved it and wants to do another one asap!’ Belinda

‘Cora had a fabulous time at your young Gastronaut workshop. Bum sandwichwes all round.’ Frances

‘Gastronaut workshops are highly engaging and Stefan Gates is superb - an inspiration to kids of all ages, including me. Highly recommended and great fun."

Olly Smith (BBC2’s Saturday Kitchen)

‘Stefan's workshops are both educational and great fun. He creates an environment which is exciting, stimulating and allows the children to learn through investigations and adventures.’

Here’s what they said

The world’s wildest, cheekiest, most explosive food stunt shows, performed for audiences of 100-2,000 (dates listed on homepage. A mind-blowing mix of science and extraordinary cooking, with video clips and lots of audience participation. Stefan performs custard-powder flamethrowing, fries an egg on a piece of paper, conducts a vegetable orchestra and if you’re lucky you’ll get to try his insects, jellyfish salad and bum sandwiches.

The shows are for adults and kids alike and are specifically designed to blow apart the preconceptions that people have about food, to make people think again about what they put in their mouths and to encourage them to become more adventurous eaters. They are funny, outrageous and fascinating but with a solid basis of food chemistry, sustainability, nutrition and a fair amount of culinary anthropology.
